Three Gallatin High School students were arrested at the school Tuesday morning following a prank on social media.
The students, who are juveniles, posted a photo of themselves with an airsoft gun, according to Sumner County Schools Spokesman Jeremy Johnson.
The photo was posted after rumors circulated a day before that there would be a school shooting at the school on Tuesday. Johnson said that authorities thoroughly investigated the rumors and deemed them unfounded.
Shortly after Principal Ron Becker sent an email to parents at around 8 p.m. Monday that the rumors were not true, the students posted the photo, Johnson said.
Johnson said that the photo appeared to be a joke in response to the email, but that it was still a substantial disruption to the school.
He added that the students would be disciplined according to the school's disciplinary policy and face charges in juvenile court.
