Three Sumner County school buses were caught in this morning's flooding in the Rockbridge area between Westmoreland and Portland, but all students are safe, Sumner Sheriff Sonny Weatherford said.
One of the buses was on Buck Perry Road, the other two were on Rogues Fork Road and Campbell Hollow, he said.
"What it was is where creeks flow beside the roads and several come in together and it's just causing major flooding," he said. "We had six inches of rain in about a three hour time period and it's just overflowing the creeks."
Weatherford said after the buses stalled, swift water rescue teams were sent out to the scenes and all children have been evacuated and are safe.
"They are wrapping up the scene now," he said.
Weatherford said other areas of the county are also experiencing flooding issues.
"We've had some high waters in Cottontown and along Longhollow - anywhere there is a creek that runs beside the road," he said.
