Commissioner Ben Harris announces resignation

It is with great humility and difficulty that I offer my letter of resignation from the position of County Commissioner representing District 5 of Sumner County with an anticipated resignation date of Sept. 30. Today, after much thought, prayer, counsel with my family and personal evaluation it's with a heavy heart that I have reached this difficult decision.

I have enjoyed my past 27 years of service to my county through being a member of the Sumner County Commission and Sumner County School Board. As a lifelong resident of Sumner County, it has been a please to serve the residents of Sumner County and District 5. I was first elected to the Sumner County Commission in August 1990. I have seen great changes to the Commission and Sumner County.

I must say a sincere thank you to the citizens of District 5 for allowing me to serve for so many years. It has been an honor. Public service remains in my blood and while I must step out of my role on the County Commission, I sincerely hope that another opportunity to service the public will present itself in the future. Regardless, I hope to remain an active member of the community and continue to work to make it a better place to live.

I understand that it will be the Commission's role to appoint an individual to fulfill my term. If I can be of assistance in that process [or] in any other manner during my remaining weeks I will be glad to do so. Thank you, County Executive Holt, for your consideration of this letter and for your dedicated service to Sumner County.

Sincerely,

Benjamin A. Harris
