Gallatin's own Fred Bailey has been bestowed "The Living Legend Award" by the Greater Nashville Alliance of Black School Educators. He was honored at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel on June 4, 2017. Bailey is known as the "Gallatin Son" who founded and serves as the executive director of the non-profit 501c3 Children Are People, Inc program located at 117 East Winchester St.

Founded in 2001 Children Are People has served over 600 at-risk children mentoring, tutoring, expanding their horizons, developing a positive work ethic, building character and promoting community involvement. Children Are People was awarded Sumner County's Best Non-Profit 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016.

Bailey has now embarked on an additional venture opening the Susie Brannon McJimpsey Center at 2506 Jefferson St., Nashville, which focuses on bridging the gap between children of all ages and education, to re-define education in a way that meets the needs of today's student and to remove the barriers to recovery from social malaise.

The work at the Susie Brannon McJimpsey Center is to preserve the legacy of Susie Brannon McJimpsey, a well know, respected, beloved Educator and philanthropist who lived in the Nashville Davidson County community. He continues, in her honor, to confront the societal problems of education disparity, addiction and urban decay for the benefit of God's children.

This mission is guided by the understanding that children come in all ages. Mr. Antwon Bailey, the son of Fred Bailey is the Chairman of the Board for the McJimpsey Center where they collaboratively promote education, human dignity and worth, and make positive contributions to the Gallatin and Nashville communities.
