The GNASH High School hockey season came to an end on Friday night as Pope John Paul II High School lost a heartbreaker, 3-2, to Independence-Summit in the Hine Cup final.

The Knights grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals by Kenner Lycans (assist J.T. Ernst) and Jake Fischer (assist Dylan Guy). Indy-Summit scored in the second period and then tied it up in the third.

With about two minutes remaining, Indy-Summit scored the game winner. JPII's Sam Singelyn had a break-away chance late in the game resulting in a penalty shot. However, his attempt went wide after the Indy-Summit goalie sprawled out and made a miraculous save.

Knights goaltender Garrett Bennett made 22 saves in the game.

JPII ends the season 15-5.
