Del Phillips, Sumner County Director of Schools, is pleased to announce Lance Taylor as the new principal of Union STEM and Demonstration School and Racheal Mason as the new principal of Lakeside Park Elementary School.
Taylor has previously served as the principal of Guild Elementary School for 13 years. He was named Sumner County's Principal of the Year by his peers in 2015-16. He holds a Masters from Trevecca Nazarene University.
Taylor is replacing Danny Sullivan, who will retire at the end of June.
"Mr. Sullivan has built a great STEM school with great teachers and parents, and I wish to simply build on that foundation" Taylor said. "Guild has been a blessing to me for 13 years, but it is time for a new challenge."
Phillips said Taylor's reputation and record as a principal speaks for itself.
"Taylor is one of the most outstanding principals in Sumner County," Phillips said. "He is an exemplary leader and a fixture in the Gallatin community. I cannot imagine a person better suited for Union."
Mason has served as the Lead Educator for H.B. Williams Elementary School and Merrol Hyde Magnet School and the district math coach for grades K-5 for the past two years. She was previously a classroom teacher at H.B. Williams for four years. She also served as the school's teacher leader for two years and was named Sumner County's Elementary Teacher of Year in 2013. Mason holds an EDS degree in instructional leadership from Tennessee Tech University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate through Union University. She is a graduate of White House High School.
She will be replacing Vicki Shelton, who will retire at the end of June.
"I am pleased to work with Lakeside Park, a community with strong academic achievements," Mason said. "Mrs. Shelton and her staff have accomplished wonderful things and I am excited to have the opportunity to continue that excellence."
Phillips said he was pleased to find such a qualified administrator within Sumner County.
"Mrs. Mason has excelled in every position she has held with us," Phillips said. "I am fully confident she will be very successful at Lakeside Park."
