A Sumner County school bus was evacuated earlier this morning on Hwy. 109 near Hancock Street after catching on fire, blocking traffic in the northbound lanes.

According to Jeremy Johnson, spokesperson for Sumner County Schools, the bus caught fire near the engine, but the exact cause is still under investigation by the Gallatin Fire Department.

Johnson said the bus was near the end of its route, with 45 students still on the bus. The majority of those students attended Rucker Stewart Middle School, and several attended Gallatin High School, he said.

All of the students were evacuated safely with no injuries and taken to school on a replacement bus, Johnson said, adding that parents were contacted by school administrators of the incident.
