A new restaurant is bringing barbeque back to the western side of Gallatin.

Blue Grill Barbeque celebrated its grand opening Oct. 10 at the corner of Nashville Pike and Douglas Bend Road. The restaurant, which offers a drive thru as well as indoor seating, is located in the space formerly home to Top Hog Express.  

“We saw an opportunity and a need in this area,” said co-owner Shawn Lester, who opened the restaurant last month with his business partners Ashley Ayrhart and Jeff Lucas. “There is nothing on this side of town that offers what we’re offering with barbeque. 

“Everything that we do here we try to push not only the quality, but we’re trying to get it out in a hurry.”

In addition to offering pulled pork and pulled chicken, Blue Grill’s menu also includes ribs, hamburgers and chicken tenders along with a variety of side items like fries, baked beans, white beans, coleslaw and potato salad.

The restaurant also offers value packs that range in size from 1 pound of meat, a side item and eight buns, up to 3 pounds of meat, three sides and 16 buns.

“Your typical hamburgers, chicken tenders and fries are made to order, so they’re not going to be old, cold or tough when you get them,” Lester said. “They’re going to be fresh. That’s about the only thing that takes the longest (to prepare). Everything else takes seconds to make.”

Several dessert options like banana pudding and Oreo pudding, which are both homeade, as well as mini chocolate and chess pies are also available.

With its opening, Blue Grill Barbeque adds “another fantastic dining option to Gallatin’s diverse lineup,” said Kim Baker, CEO of the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Their location serves an area of our city with limited choices and their menu offers a variety of southern favorites and staples,” Baker added. “We look forward to watching them grow.”
