*Trinity Lutheran Church located at 720 Lock 4 Road in Gallatin, is taking applications for the fall semester for their Parents Day Out program. They accept children ages 9 months to pre-k. The program meets on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and follows the Sumner County School schedule. The first day of instruction is Tuesday, August 9. There is a $25 registration fee and a weekly fee of $35. Discounts are available if you enroll more than one child. *People who are considering college or who may have college credits and want to finish their degree, are invited to Volunteer State Community College Reconnect Information Sessions. The Reconnect events will feature one-on-one advising. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers in an informal and relaxed setting. Vol State Reconnect is part of a statewide effort to get more adult students into college. There will be two sessions on the Gallatin campus, one on July 28 and another on August 2. All of the events will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. People are encouraged to email reconnect@volstate.edu for more details and to let the college know they are coming. *The Almedia Bragg Missionary Society of St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 355 Blythe St., will be having a Red Hat program on Friday, July 29 at 7 p.m. ‘Theme is Redemption through the Blood’ speaker will be Lay Minister Lynette Cistrunk from Key Stewart United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome.

*You are invited to a Harry Potter Party at the Gallatin Public Library Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be costume contests, Horcrux Hunt, photo opportunities, wizard dueling, trivia and Harry Potter themed crafts & food. This is a FREE event open to all ages.

*Saved By Grace Church will have its first Back to School Bash on July 30 at Clearview Park, 723 Chambers St. in Gallatin from 10 a.m. to 4p.m. They will have free school supplies for students starting at 11 a.m. Child must be present. There will also be health screenings, live music, shopping vendors, food vendors and other family activities.

*Free clothing give-away Sunday, July 31 at The Palace, 146 N. Water Ave. in Gallatin. It will be hosted by The Guitar Church. There will be a clothing give-away, snacks and music from 9am to Noon. Everyone is welcome! (254) 592-2948.

AUGUST 1

*Individuals and teams can compete for prizes and bragging rights at the tenth annual Athletic Association Golf Classic, benefiting the Volunteer State College Foundation. The tournament is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 1 and registration is open now. The highlight of the event is the Volunteer State Bank Paul Warren Memorial Corporate Cup Challenge. The tournament will be held at Fairvue Plantation in Gallatin. Registration and warm-up begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a light brunch and a noon shotgun start. The Golf Classic raises money for the Volunteer State Community College Athletic Association. Businesses and individuals are encouraged to enter teams for the event. The cost for individuals is $125 and $500 per team. There will be prizes for men and women’s par 3, long drive and closest to the pin. Super-tickets can be purchased for $25 each. They include a putting contest, mulligan, chipping contest and other fun events. The event will culminate that evening with an awards dinner. A full range of sponsorship opportunities for the tournament are available. *The Middle Tennessee History Coalition (MTHC) and Bledsoe Creek State Park are pleased to announce the addition of an 18th century trade cabin display to the Tennessee History Trail at Bledsoe Creek State Park. The public is invited to attend the grand opening of the display on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served and historians and interpreters from MTHC will be on site to talk about the fur trade, its impact on middle Tennessee, and how the cabin display was built.

*The Fairway Golf Club will host its annual golf tournament on August 27 at the Long Hollow Golf Course. The one day medal play tournament will start at 8 a.m. The tournament fee is $65 and covers green fees, cart, lunch and prizes in all flights. The tournament will be flighted to accommodate all levels of play. Prizes will also be awarded for longest drive and closest to pins. Hole sponsorship is $50. *Union High alumni activities the weekend of Sept. 2-3. Friday Night Fish Fry at the Clearview Park in Gallatin on Sept. 2 at 5pm. On Saturday, Sept. 3, come one come all to another annual gathering of Union High alumni and friends at Gallatin City Hall. Enjoy a great time remembering old times gone by with good food, singing, greeting and dancing until you drop. The fun starts at 3pm. After greeting, dinner will be served at 4pm, and then we will have the Motown Review. You don’t want to miss it — if you thought last year was good, watch out! Don’t forget to bring a friend or two. Entertainment will include the tempting Temptations, the wonderful songstress, Miss Etta James, the magnificent Johnny Taylor, and much more. We will also have the one and only, Mr. John Hook and his fabulous band, along with the marvelous Supremes. Come on out and see for yourself and be amazed! The cost is $30.
