Boy Scout Troop 407 conducted a Smile Drive through America’s Tooth Fairy Organization benefiting Sumner County Family Resource Center.
The scouts reached out to the community asking for dental hygiene items such as toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste, and mouthwash. They also placed drop boxes at Gallatin First United Methodist Church where they meet.
Their original goal was 100 items. By the end of their drive, they collected 2,845 items for the Family Resource Center that benefits underprivileged families in the Sumner County school system.
To stick with their theme of their Smile Drive and learn more about dental hygiene, the scouts also earned their Dentistry merit badge with the help of Dr. Ezell at Smile Connections Family Dental. He also donated toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Liam Alexander, the troop’s senior patrol leader said, “Many times we take for granted something as simple as owning our own toothbrush. I’m blown away by how our community stepped in to help us not only reach our goal but surpass it. We can accomplish a lot when we work together toward a common goal especially for the good of the community.”
America’s Tooth Fairy Smile Drive collected 16,777 items nationally to be donated to underprivileged families. Troop 407 was ranked as the 2nd highest collector nationally. To learn more visit AmericasToothFairy.org
