Gallatin Shalom Zone announces a special twist on the organization’s summer camp that has been held for over 13 years. The camp is for children entering first through fourth grade.
For the safety of all children and adults due to the COVID-19, the Shalom Zone All Star day camp will be held starting the first week in June.
Supplies, food and educational materials can be picked up on Tuesday and Thursday in a “grab-and-go” format. The students will then take projects home and work on them there.
Parents and children can come to get materials either by car, or by walking up if they live close enough. Shalom Zone is located at 600 Small Street.
“A lot of the families Shalom works with do not have access to the Internet, and many of our students do not have computers,” said Executive Director PJ Davis.
“When students apply to the program, we will survey them to see if families have the capability to get online. If they do then we will pivot the program and go online,” she said.
“Shalom has a long history of working with the community and meeting the needs of those we are involved with, and we want to continue services but keep everyone safe,” Davis added.
The projects will include: special incentive reading books and activities; STEM kits; math problems; crafts; and other self-directed activities. There will also be a special Drive-By Station for students to observe an outreach/enrichment activity.
The Shalom Zone has gathered a team including educators and health specialists who have worked on this special one-of-a-kind program for the upcoming summer. The program will run from June 3 until the end of the month. Students need to commit to the entire month of June.
The program is limited, but all students who fall in the age range of first through fourth grade can register. The program is free to Sumner County students thanks to generous funders.
To register, go online to www.gallatinshalomzone.net or for a hard copy of the application call (615) 442-7575, and one will be mailed to you. Gallatin Shalom Zone is located at 600 Small Street, Gallatin TN 37066.
