Gallatin could be getting a Subaru dealership on Nashville Pike near Lowe’s.
Arkansas-based RML Automotive is looking to build the dealership on approximately 5.2 acres between Browns Lane and Memory Lane. The property, which is currently vacant, sits across from Miracle Ford next to Sumner Bank and Trust.
While the Gallatin Planning Commission is not expected to vote on the project until next month, plans for the development were presented to commissioners Monday ahead of a meeting between developers and the homeowners’ association of the nearby Villages of Plantation neighborhood.
“What we want to do is bring this to you guys early to get out in front of it because it is an auto dealer although it is commercially zoned property,” project representative Randy Perry with Perry Engineering said Monday.
The proposed dealership would have a total of 25,555 square feet of space, which would include a 14,310-squre-foot service department and an indoor showroom capable of holding four vehicles, according to plans for the project.
Perry added that an increased vegetation buffer that is denser than what is required by the city is also shown on the plan between the development and the neighboring subdivision. Residents are only expected to see part of the building and not the vehicle storage from their homes.
It will be up to planning commissioners to decide if the project represents as major or minor amendment to planned unit development (PUD) for the Woods Commons commercial subdivision. If determined to be a major amendment, the plan would then need to go to the Gallatin City Council for approval.
“This is a good use for the property and fits well there… but this changes the circulation, so it’s probably a major amendment that will need to go before the city council,” Gallatin Planning Commission Chairman John Puryear said Monday. “We’re real excited to get a Subaru dealership in town and it looks like a good site plan.”
