A Gallatin man is facing charges for the sexual assault of a young child.

Billy (Bill) Raymond Ennis, Jr., 61, was charged with rape of a child on May 1.

According to a police report, the incident occurred in February 2019 and involved a 7-year-old female victim.

The incident report states that police were notified by the Department of Children’s Services concerning a possible sexual assault on a female minor child at a local residence. After interviewing the child and her mother at Ashley’s Place – an advocacy group for abused children, police received information that Ennis had inappropriately touched the girl while on the couch watching television covered up with a blanket.

The young victim told police Ennis was rubbing her thigh and told her that her skin was “really soft,” the report states, after which Ennis is said to have put his hand inside the girl’s underwear and fondled her.

The victim stated that she asked Ennis to stop, at which time he said, “OK.”

Records show that Ennis was released from jail May 2 on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to be in General Sessions Court on May 15 at 9 a.m.
