Over the past 20 years, Gallatin has experienced tremendous growth in restaurants and dining options. Across the city, numerous eateries have sprung up offering a variety of palate-pleasing cuisines to hungry customers.
One of the more recent dining establishments is King’s Place, Gallatin’s new home for fish, chicken and wings. Located at 161 West Broadway, King’s Place is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Freddric and Angelia Christian.
“I grew up in Gallatin, and I always felt that we needed a hometown fish and chicken restaurant,” said Freddric Christian. “So when we decided to start our own business, it was only natural that we chose to open King’s Place.”
King’s Place offers a variety of entrees, sandwiches and side items, each made from scratch from homestyle recipes.
“Our most popular items are catfish filet sandwich plates, catfish nuggets and wings,” said Angelia Christian. “Our wings are extra-large, and they are available breaded, naked or boneless. They can be ordered country fried or coated in one of our 24 special sauces.”
Along with their fish and wings, the restaurant also offers a signature chicken sandwich, which is Freddric’s favorite menu item.
“For me, there is nothing like our chicken sandwich. It comes with two jumbo chicken tenders and all the fixings,” said Freddric Christian. “A lot of our customers don’t even know how good our chicken sandwich is because they love our wings and fish so much.”
While business is going well today, all was not well in the beginning, since King’s Place opened in February 2020, which was the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Like most restaurants and retail establishments, the eatery had to deal with several difficult issues, including staffing shortages and an unreliable supply chain.
“Due to local food wholesaler problems, we had to make regular runs to Louisville each week to get fresh fish and chicken,” says Freddric Christian. “Since Angelia and I both work fulltime jobs, those early months were hard on us. However, looking back now, it was worth it.”
As the pandemic became more manageable in late 2021, life became more normal for the Christian’s. Local food sourcing replaced midnight Louisville roundtrips, and staffing stabilized, setting the stage for the future.
During 2022, the restaurant’s business really took off, due in large part to a growing following of loyal customers who have helped spread the word about King’s Place.
“In our restaurant, we live by one simple rule – quality comes first. We will never serve any food items that we wouldn’t eat ourselves,” said Freddric Christian. “We cook our food with love and care, and our customers can taste the difference.”
Along with outstanding food, King’s Place is also known for its customer service.
“We love getting to know our customers and we are happy to see them each time they visit us,” said Angelia Christian. “Our customers aren’t just a number for us; they are part of our family.”
Freddric and Angelia invite new customers to stop by King’s Place for dining in or takeout. Their current business hours are 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and 4 – 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant is also open on Sundays from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. during the NFL football season.
