Green Wave Nation took America by storm May 14 in the school gymnasium, displaying team-camaraderie amongst fellow teachers in hopes of inspiring all those at home.

Spearheaded by Lady Wave Basketball Assistant Coach Greta Parker, 35 faculty members socially distanced themselves while unifying to show school spirit.

Parker got the idea to be in the Today Show plaza after show hosts Craig Melvin and Hoda Kotb announced they wanted views to write in and submit why they should be in the new virtual plaza.

“I do not remember what I said (on the application), but it was along the lines of us (Gallatin) being a small hometown outside the city limits of Nashville, very diversified and like all teachers, it has been hard on us, and we are doing all we can to stay in touch with our students and let them know we miss them and cannot wait to see them again.”

“I thought this would be a good way of getting our school and community out there while uplifting teachers who are in our boat.”

A few days later, Parker received an unexpected phone call, not recognizing the number, she sent the caller to voicemail. It was not until sometime later she realized it was NBC calling her.

“I flipped my lid when I realized who is on the other end of the phone. I thought I was being punked,” she said.

NBC informed Parker there would be no camera crew for a large shoot, but instead, the coverage would take over a zoom call, meaning Parker had to get creative to show off their school pride.

“They originally asked me to if I wanted to do the call in my living room, but I told them I wanted our school and teachers represented,” she said. “I asked if there was a way to do it in our gym with a few teachers present and they loved it.”

Gallatin did receive a verbal shout out for their school spirit.

"All the teachers and faculty were very excited,” Parker said. “It has been a crazy, stressful time for what we do. I sent out an initial email hoping for a great response, and that is what I got. Everyone was super positive about it and thought it was a good experience.”
