A Gallatin woman has been charged with stealing nearly $250,000 from a local business, according to Sumner County prosecutors.

Karen Purcell, 55, was indicted by a Sumner County Grand Jury last month on one count of theft in excess of $60,000.

According to prosecutors, she is believed to have taken $235,307.73 from Willmore Tool & Die between April 2018 and September 2019.

“She had a position that allowed her access to the finances of the company,” Sumner County Assistant District Attorney Thomas Dean said about the case. “The allegations are that she used that position to transfer the money… based on reviews of the company’s records and bank records obtained through search warrants and subpoenas.”

An arraignment hearing for Purcell was held Monday in Sumner County Criminal Court. A settlement hearing is scheduled for Sept. 24.
