Moe Taylor has announced his candidacy for re-election as a county commissioner for District 1.  He has served in this position the past eight years.

Taylor said, “I first put my name on the ballot for this position 12 years ago. I fell short of being elected by 27 votes.  There were six candidates on the ballot that year, just like there is this year. So every vote counts and the vote can be split in many directions with six choices, for two positions.”

First elected in 2010 Taylor said, “I was humbled by the response of the voters during the 2010 election, where I was first elected to serve the citizens of the 1st District. I also appreciated the voters of the 2014 election process where I was elected to my serve my second term.”

Taylor and his wife Jennifer live in the Turner Station area of the 1st District. They have two daughters and two grandchildren they adore. Taylor has been a resident of the 1st Commission District the vast majority of his life. Growing up on the family farm on Keen Hollow Road, he attended North Sumner Elementary School.  He then went on to Westmoreland High School and graduated president of his senior class. He earned his American FFA Degree while continuing his education at Western Kentucky University. He worked his way through college and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from WKU in Agriculture, with an emphasis in Education and Business.

During his professional career he has spent over 20 years in management. He has the experience needed with budgets, funding, and meeting commitments. He has put that experience and leadership to work while serving on the county commission. Taylor currently is serving as the chairman of the Sumner County Agriculture Extension Services Committee. He has served as chairman of the commission’s Committee on Committees and vice chairman of the Budget Committee.

Taylor also believes in being active in the community. He is a member of the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce and a lifetime member of the Westmoreland High School FFA Alumni Chapter. He also serves as a Trustee for Trammel Lodge #436 Free and Accepted Masons.

After being elected, he looked to invest back into the community that supported him and started the Westmoreland Fishing Rodeo with tremendous support from the community and the businesses and citizens of the district, and all over Summer County.  This yearly event has been successfully carried out the past eight years.

Taylor said, “I remember my reasons for setting out on this journey 12 years ago. Those reasons have not changed- they have only grown.

“I made a few campaign promises that I have strived to follow through with; that being to make informed tough decisions at every committee meeting or commission meeting I am a part of. Then to be a voice of those I am thankful to serve and represent and to try and bring more access to city or public water line access to the 1st District and all of our county.

“I have a history story of listening and standing with the constituents of the 1st District and all of Sumner County’s citizens on issues that affect our everyday lives. I have tried to also ensure citizens are informed on the issues.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the constituents of the 1st District the past eight years. I would like to continue this journey of serving you the next four years. I have experience with the issues that will face you and I the next four years. I also have a history of standing with and for those I represent.

“I truly appreciate the opportunity to serve. I would like to thank you for your support and ask you for your vote during early voting and on Election Day Aug. 2.
