Meta – formerly Facebook — has announced the expansion of its Gallatin data center facility.

In a news release, the company said it will be adding two additional buildings, as well as workers.

“We’re excited to announce that we are expanding Meta’s Gallatin Data Center campus with two new buildings, reaching more than 1.6 million square feet,” the release stated. “This expansion brings our investment in Gallatin to nearly $1 billion and will increase our number of skilled trade workers on site at peak to 1,700.

“By supporting our data centers with 100 percent renewable energy, we are making additional contributions to local economies through investments in new wind and solar projects. Meta supported renewable energy projects in Tennessee represent over $111 million in local investment, 700 construction jobs, and 30 annual operational jobs locally.”

Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown said the company has already made a great impact on the city.

“Meta has proven to be a tremendous community partner,” Brown said. “Early on we were told that they would support and engage in our city and they have exceeded our expectations with their contributions to our local schools and non-profits. Their increased investment here will be meaningful for Gallatin, Sumner County, and surrounding areas.”

Those contributions have already provided for the expansion of adult training programs, Internet accessibility for local students, computer coding and robotics for school-age children, high school education in finance careers for young women, and food and commodities for local children and families, she added.

Meta has also invested nearly $4 million to extend Gateway Drive to a signalized intersection at Hartsville Pike as well as $8.6 million in utility infrastructure. The company’s subcontractors have also installed underground fiber throughout Gallatin.

“Meta has become a model corporate citizen in their short time here,” said James Fenton, executive director of the Gallatin Economic Development Agency.

“Gallatin is grateful for Meta’s continued confidence in our city that allows them to heavily invest here.”
