A Gallatin police officer is still recovering in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle while assisting with a traffic stop Friday afternoon.
Officer Daniel Green was standing along the shoulder of State Route 109 near the intersection of South Water Avenue and Airport Road when he was struck by the vehicle and launched into the air, according to Gallatin Police Chief Don Bandy.
“He’s pretty banged up and bruised, but he’s doing a lot better,” Bandy said Monday about Green who was still being treated at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. “He’s got a great attitude though and he’s so complementary of the outpouring of well-wishers and prayers from the community.”
A portion of S.R. 109 was shut down Friday while the Tennessee Highway Patrol Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.
According to Bandy, preliminary information points to the driver of the vehicle that struck Green suffering a “massive medical emergency” prior to the crash.
No additional details about the incident had been released as of Monday evening.
