Gallatin police say a Nashville man with no ties to the city randomly opened fire at Lock 4 Park, injuring two people before taking his own life Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting took place around 3:30 p.m. on June 23 at the end of Lock 4 Road near the lake access.
According to police, 22-year-old Quantez Parks first shot two individuals who were attempting to help him after he indicated he needed medical attention. He then left and shot at two bicyclists who were in another area of the park.
“This was a very random shooting,” Gallatin Police Chief Don Bandy said.
One of the victims who was struck was transported by LifeFlight to a local hospital and was in stable condition, according to police. The other was treated and released at the scene.
Parks was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police added.
Authorities say there is no connection between the shooter, the victims or the city. Investigators interviewed members of Parks’ family who told them he had been suffering from personal issues recently.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Gallatin Police Department at 615-452-1313.
