Alex Wakefield and William Ring have each been awarded a $2,000 college scholarship by the Gallatin First United Methodist Church. Alex received the Durham Scholarship and William was presented the Donna Linerode Scholarship during home visits this week.
Alex also is the 2020 recipient of the GFUMC Men’s Ministry’s George Crick Outstanding Senior Award. This $1,000 award is given annually in recognition of a graduating senior’s achievements.
Alex, a 2020 graduate of Gallatin High School, plans to attend Lipscomb University this fall and major in business. His church activities have ranged from helping organize youth events, to leading children’s activities, to managing technology during worship.
Alex has maintained a 3.98 GPA, served on the GHS Student Council for four years, served this past year as a member of the school’s Executive Board, and participated in the Performers Chorus for three years. He also was involved with the Key Club, DECA, National Honor Society, and Beta Club.
He is the son of Angie Wakefield and the late Hayes Wakefield.
William is a junior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he is majoring in Civil Engineering. He also plays on the university’s rugby team.
The son of Rob and Alison Ring, William participated in GFUMC youth activities and other events throughout middle and high school. He attended every church mission trip and summer camp during his Gallatin school years. He also was involved in theater, the Rotary Interact Club, and National Honor Society and graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
William is presently an officer for the UT Men’s Rugby Club and continues to perform volunteer work along with his teammates.
The Gallatin First United Methodist Church annually awards scholarships to students attending college. Applicants must be involved in church, school, and community activities and meet defined academic requirements. Letters of recommendation and evidence of good citizenship and character also are required. Scholarships are funded by restricted gifts which specify award criteria.
