Evangelist Alvin Vernon Ownby passed away on October 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Alvin was born in Indiana on December 2,1950 to Alvin Pace Ownby and Betty June Bogle Ownby. Evangelist Ownby resided in Gallatin, Tennessee.
Evangelist Ownby was married to the love of his life, Pamela. They met in 1971. In a whirlwind romance of six weeks, Alvin and Pamela took their vows for life. The proof that they were truly the “ones” for each other was apparent in their 47-year marriage and the blessings of their two children, Amy and Timothy.
Evangelist Ownby grew up on the river. His upbringing gave him a great love for our Lord. He loved being out in nature. Some of his favorite past times were camping and fishing, especially with his family. Another passion for Evangelist Ownby was his love for science. He loved Chemistry, Rockets, Astronomy and the Constellations.
Evangelist Ownby was a wonderful Christian father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren. He made a point of spending quality time with them. A beautiful example of this was the Daddy-Daughter date nights with daughter, Amy which they had on a regular basis.
Evangelist Ownby was also known as a wonderful man of God and Evangelist who had a heart for the lost. He traveled extensively spreading the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He conducted camp meetings, tent revivals, and established the Word of God in Action Center. He was involved in healing services where he witnessed many miracles from God. He never met a stranger, when he was sitting in a restaurant having coffee, he would strike up a conversation about Jesus, bringing hundreds to Salvation.
Evangelist Ownby was much more than just an Evangelist. He was a “true” friend During his many years of service, he came to be loved not only by his adoring family, but also by all those he would meet. He had a heart for his brothers and sisters in the Lord, as well as all those he would meet on a daily basis. He was a prayer warrior for those in need. He was always giving help to all who needed it. He was known as a “giver, and not a taker.” He knew the heart of the people he served and was loved by many just as he loved.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pamela Ownby; daughter Amy Eddy (Shawn Phillips); a son Timothy Ownby (Samantha); grandchildren, Destiny Brayley and Penelope Ownsby; as well as other loved and cherished family and friends. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; Alvin Pace Ownby and Betty June Bogle Ownby; and a sister Kathleen June Porter.
