“Jackie” Lorna Jacquelyn Holmes, age 94 of Hendersonville, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living on Thursday, September 27, 2018.

Jackie was a beloved, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Spending time with family has always been central to her life. For years, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, AZ, by serving on committees, playing the organ, and volunteering.  Jackie touched the lives of people around her through loving acts and generosity.

Attending sporting events, dancing, traveling are just a few of her interests that she explored at different times in her life.  While Jackie was not pretentious, she was sophisticated and had an amazing sense of fashion. Jackie regularly attended gatherings for the local Peoria chapter of the Red Hat Society.  The Peoria Arizona Historical Society (PAHS) selected Lorna Jacquelyn Short Holmes as the 2011 Peoria Pioneer Honoree.

In October 2011, at age 87, Jackie bravely moved from Sun City, AZ to Hendersonville, TN to be closer to a larger group of family members.  Taking drives to see the Tennessee fall foliage or Christmas lights brought her lots of joy. The last few years of her life, she watched all kinds of movies for entertainment and fellowship with her son, Ken.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Ethel Short; and her husband, Eugene David Holmes. She is survived by her sons, Ken and Randy Holmes; grandchildren, Clinton Holmes, Emily Holmes Jones, Esseri Holmes, and Jesse Holmes; and great-grandchildren, Mya Jones and London Ree.

Her family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until her Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Saturday October 27 at Austin and Bell Funeral Home, Hendersonville.

An expression of sympathy memorial contribution may be made to the MS Society at www.nationalmssociety.org.
