Jerry Owen Meador, 68, died on July 1, 2018.

He was born on February 13, 1950, in LaFayette, TN, to the late Leonard Meador and Geraldine Franklin Meador and was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Ann Meador Lowhorn. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Johnson Meador; three daughters, Rachel Meador Bashore of Sevierville, TN, Amanda Meador Redman (Michael) of Brooklyn, NY, and Jeri Elizabeth Meador of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Garrett, Gracelyn, and Bailey Bashore; and one brother, Michael Meador (Fran Watkins) of Kingston Springs, TN.

A long-time resident of Sevier County, formerly of Hendersonville, TN, Jerry was a graduate of Hendersonville High School. He also studied at UT Nashville and Volunteer State Community College.

He served in the 205th Aviation Company in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Jerry was an accomplished musician who worked as a studio musician in Nashville and toured as the lead singer of The Counts of Nowhere during his early career. He was the Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Hendersonville before moving to Sevierville, where he and his wife, Marsha, owned and operated several woodcraft businesses, including Homegrown Woods & Things and Off the Beaten Path. They also maintained Silver Dollar Sign & Mercantile, a woodcraft and music store at Dollywood, for many years, and he is remembered for his beautifully crafted dulcimers. After retiring, he continued to play music with friends, and he enjoyed gardening and fishing.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph the Carpenter Episcopal Church, 345 Hardin Lane, Sevierville, TN, followed by a reception at the church. Rev. Paige Buchholz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to an animal rescue organization of their choosing.
