GALLATIN – The annual Maroon and White game at Station Camp was held last Friday afternoon at the Bison stadium where players got their first opportunity to scrimmage live ball situations after a week of practice.

“There are lots of things we still have to work on,” Station Camp coach Shaun Hollinsworth said. “For the most part we really tried to scale the playbook back this spring, it may have looked like we had a lot of plays in today but really we only had about three. We worked really hard executing those three plays today.”

In the end it was the white team defeating the maroon team 3-2. Scores for the white team came from Terry Bradley, Billy Weakley and JJ Jenkins. Blaine Forte scored both maroon touchdowns on quarterback keepers.

Station Camp will wrap their spring practice with a scrimmage at McGavock on May 15.

“We will face a difference defense when we go to McGavock,”Hollinsworth stated. “They run a 4-3 cover 2 defense, but we will work hard on that.”

The maroon and white game is meant for all players to get more comfortable with what they are doing, where they are going on designed plays and getting a better feel for playing for the prideful Bison.

“For the most part today is about getting the guys comfortable,” Hollinsworth said. “Getting the guys comfortable with what we are doing this year. We are doing things a lot different this year with different looks, different sets offensively.”

Things may look different on offense, but defensively nothing has changed.

“Defense is status quo” Hollinsworth continued. “We will do what we do on defense. We are going to get better at reading, reading hats and getting to the ball.”

The Bison are coming off a disappointing season in 2017 but coaches are optimistic and hopeful for this upcoming fall.

“Just getting back out here feels good,” Hollinsworth stated. “The team fought week in and week out but it was a rough year last year. That is the great thing, you always have an opportunity to have a fresh start. We are going to try and put some more wins in the win column this year.”

The youth that may have plagued the team last year should help the Bison moving forward.

“It should be beneficial,” he said. “We have a good core coming back that played a lot last year and what we’ve got to do is build depth. We have to be smart with how we prepare. We are stressing execution and the guys we have coming back with experience I think we will put together a competitive team on the field.”
