The TSSAA has officially canceled spring sports for the 2020 school year. With that comes the abrupt end for seniors across the county. Some will have the luxury of moving on to play college ball in their respective sports, but the harsh reality is that most kids will never get to play the game they grew up loving anymore.

We at Main Street Preps want to do something to honor these seniors. It is not much, but we are hopeful these senior spotlights will shed light on stellar careers enjoyed on the fields.

This particular article will feature the Gallatin Green Wave soccer seniors: Trace Kelley, Fabian Lopez, Logan Gilbreath, Cason Wix, Eric Barahona. This group of seniors enjoyed 21 victories over their four-year careers.

“They are a group of dudes that have worked hard and all excel in the classroom and the student body,” Gallatin Head Coach Greg Harper said. “They have a ton of Green Wave Pride, and I have enjoyed being around them and coaching them. We have had some fun times together, and I would have liked to see them get to finish it out (their careers).”

Harper still talks to his guys at least once a week through a team group chat telling them that brighter days are ahead, to accept what you cannot change and that he will always be there for them if they need him.

“I tell them how much I miss them and how tough it is to not be around them,” he added. “I let them know how much I appreciate their four years of service and all the hard work they put in. This (pandemic) is one of those things I tell them you must adapt and overcome and trust the Lord that everything happens for a reason.”

The toughest part of the pandemic is not getting to see all the handwork come to fruition. Despite being an unknown team, Harper would have liked the opportunity to see if his team could overcome a difficult District 10-AAA.

“The hard part (conditioning) was over with,” he said. “We were an unknown team, and I describe my feelings as cautious optimism towards the season, but I still would have liked to see how this group would have finished it out.”
