Nathan Wilson is staying in Sumner County to coach football this fall, but it will not be with the Gallatin Green Wave.

Wilson has spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator under head coach Chad Watson but will transition to Beech High School, where he will coach outside linebackers this fall.

“I felt like it was one of those situations when someone asks for the third time, and you turn them down, they may not ask again,” Wilson said. “Working under coach Crabtree will be beneficial to me down the road.”

He tells Main Street Preps Crabtree called him the Monday following the Green and Gold game and that after a week of deliberation, his decision had become more evident.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to work at Gallatin and for Chad keeping me on when he took the job,” Wilson said. “I loved the kids at Gallatin, the faculty is great, and I wish them the best in all they do.”

Wilson is excited for his new role coaching on the defensive side of the football.

“I got into this job because I had guys in my life that helped me along and taught me life lessons in football. So all I want to do is pay it forward to these kids.”

Gallatin and Beech will compete against one another in Region 5-6A next fall, with the Green Wave making the trip to Shackle Island on October 15.

“We are glad to have coach Wilson on our staff,” Beech head coach Anthony Crabtree said. “I think he is a great addition and brings knowledge and experience, which is always good.”

Wilson will continue to teach math during the 2021-22 school year.
