Lady Bucs seeded No. 1 --

Lucky lady.

Beech High coach Kristi Utley won Tuesday morning's coin flip with Lebanon to give her Lady Bucs the No. 1 seed in this week's District 9AAA basketball tournament set for Wilson Central High.

Beech and the Devilettes ended the season tied for first place in the league with identical records of 13-1 -- having split their two-game regular season series.

With the winning flip, Beech (23-2) will take on No. 8-seeded Hendersonville (7-19) in Wednesday's 6:30 p.m. tournament opener.

No. 2-seeded Lebanon (23-6) plays No. 7-seeded Mt. Juliet (7-16) in Wednesday's 8 p.m. contest.

Tonight's winners will advance to the semifinals on Friday while the losers are eliminated.

Two quarterfinal games are planned Thursday as No. 3 Wilson Central (15-10) plays No. 6 Portland (12-17) at 6:30 p.m. followed by No. 4 Gallatin (19-8) vs. No. 5 Station Camp (13-13) at 8 p.m.

Just like Wednesday, Thursday's winners advance to Friday's semifinals with the losers going home.

Once teams reach the district semifinals, all four are guaranteed a berth in the Region 5AAA tournament.

Monday's consolation game is set for 6:30 p.m. followed by the championship game at 8 p.m.
