PORTLAND - In a close defensive battle, the Station Camp Lady Bison come away on the road at Portland with a 33-29 win.
Marisa Wirtz and Faith Eubank combined to score 27 of their teams 33 points in the winning effort.
Station Camp started the game with eight consecutive points, but Portland fought back after a 15-5 run to take a 15-13 lead at halftime.
The Lady Bison clamped down on the defensive end in the third and responded to retake a 22-19 lead, before holding a commanding 29-23 lead with minutes remaining. “Portland came out and their defense really slowed us down,” Station Camp head coach Miranda Cravens said. “We were having a hard time scoring, but I give credit to them. They didn’t have Sami Parker the last time we played, and she really brings a big presence in the paint. We struggled all night, but we were able to execute and got the buckets that we needed down the stretch to win.”
Portland fought within two points after baskets from Sami Parker and Abi Thomerson, but made several turnovers in their final possessions to give Station Camp the win.
“The effort was there tonight, and we really got after it,” Portland head coach Scott Steinbrecher said. “You could see we had a lot of nerves early and that’s what caused us to get down early. But every time this team plays they continue to amaze me with where we are and how much we’ve improved. This is a different team from last month and even a week ago.”
