GALLATIN – Station Camp kept it close until halftime, but the Beech Lady Bucs went on a 6-0 run to begin the third quarter and ran away from the Lady Bison for a 59-39 victory Friday night.
“We came out strong in the first half because they beat us by 40 earlier in the year,” Station Camp head coach Miranda Cravens said. “We have improved. We are slowly growing and getting better, but we have a lot of inexperience. I knew they (Beech) were going to make a run, I just didn’t know when.”
“They came out and popped us in the mouth in the first half,” Beech head coach Kristi Utley added.
The Lady Bucs outscored Station Camp 16-6 in the third quarter to take a 45-30 lead, then proceeded to run away with the win. The Beech defense, as has been the case in most of their games, has taken over games with steals, blocked shots, and other assorted turnovers.
Friday night was no different as the Lady Bucs swarmed the Lady Bison in the second half. “We were trying for steals too much early in the game, but we settled down in the second half,” said Utley. “The first three minutes of the second half we want to win because usually whoever wins that wins the game.”
Mia Dean led the Lady Bucs in scoring with 13 points. DeShiya Hooser added 11, and Bri Ellis scored 10.
Marisa Wirtz led the Lady Bison with 17. Faith Eubank, who reached the 1000-point mark in their game versus Gallatin last week, had 13. “Faith works so hard, she has come a long way since I got here. She deserves everything she gets. I am very proud of her,” said Cravens.
