HENDERSONVILLE -- The JPII Lady Knights had little trouble with the Merrol Hyde Lady Hawks, cruising to a 60-13 win Tuesday night.
The 47-point victory is the second 40-plus point win for JPII over Merrol Hyde this season – the other being a 56-8 victory back in early November.
Leading scorer Keonna Chumbley dropped a game-high 12 points, while eight other Lady Knights found the score sheet. The victory for JPII improves the Lady Knights to 6-0 while dropping Merrol Hyde to 0-7.
Leading 35-6 at halftime, JPII took a 46-6 lead into the final quarter, limiting Merrol Hyde to just one shot per possession on defense.
“We definitely shot the ball much better tonight than we did in the first meeting,” JPII coach Angi Puckett said. “I thought defensively our rotations could have been better. We weren’t communicating like I want us to do. Those are some areas we must clean up.”
The Lady Knights will test themselves on Friday against Lipscomb and again on Saturday when they welcome in Goodpasture at 4:30 p.m.
“I always feel like we have so much to work on, but I’m very impressed with our intensity on defense and our hustle,” Puckett continued. “I know Lipscomb is a very fast team that can shoot well, and Goodpasture is having a really good season, so both will be a good test for us this weekend.”
