GALLATIN - Both the girl’s and boy’s hoops teams at Gallatin had little trouble with their visiting counterparts Tuesday night as both the Lady Wave and Green Wave won their games by 20-plus.
In the girl’s contest, Jerry Landers squad walked away with a commanding 59-18 victory as nine different players registered a point for the Lady Wave.
Jeremia Montgomery led all scorers with 10 points while Jo’Neca Talley and Kayla Carman each scored nine points.
“I thought we did a really good job of staying focused tonight and sometimes that is easy to lose, especially when you are trying to play as many kids as we are.” Head coach Jerry Landers said. “We did a much better job of moving the ball along the perimeter tonight and getting the ball inside and finishing.”
In total the Lady Wave finished with 42 paint points and 14 offensive rebounds.
The Lady Indians did what they could the first four minutes of the game, scoring six paint points and tallying one 3-pointer, but that was all East could get going as they fell behind 22-10 at the end of the first quarter.
“I thought we started off well,” East head coach Kenyatta Perry said. “Our girls played really hard and that is what you want to see, but after watching them on tape you knew at some point that was coming.
“Their guards do a really good job of pressuring you,” Perry continued. “I thought we competed and that is something to build off of.”
Gallatin forced East into 20 turnovers and converted those 20 turnovers into 28 fast break points.
The Lady Wave will host Mt. Juliet on Friday night and coach Landers says that his team’s defensive communication has to be better.
“I think we need to do a better job of calling out screens on defense,” he said. “I think we improved from last game but we still need to do a better job of that.”
