Pope John Paul II announced Tuesday that Coach Kim deMarigny will become Pope’s fourth Women’s Head Basketball Coach in the school’s twenty-year history.

Pope John Paull II announced Tuesday, May 4, Coach Kim deMarigny as the new Head Coach of JPII’s girls basketball program.

Coach Angi Puckett will step down as JPII’s Head Girls Basketball Coach after six years.

“Coach Puckett let us know in early April that she would be moving out of state to be closer to her family,” JPII Athletic Director John Dempsey said.

The Lady Knights will move forward with deMarigny in July. Coach deMarigny comes to JPII from Maine West High School in DesPlaines, Illinois, where she served as the Head Girls Basketball Coach from 2016-2021. deMarigny led the Warriors to a 121-9 record over the past four seasons with multiple Sectional, Super Sectional Championships along with a 4A State Title in 2018, where the Warriors finished the year with an unblemished 35-0 campaign. deMarigny was awarded coach of the year honors four consecutive years beginning in 2017. She will become Pope’s fourth Girls Head Basketball Coach in the school’s twenty-year history.

“In my conversations with Coach deMarigny, I feel she and Coach Puckett are cut from similar cloth. Coach deMarigny stresses defense and knows the importance of teaching more than the game of basketball to players. She has a genuine concern for the students she teaches and coaches. We are excited for her to join our Pope family and look forward to seeing where she takes our women’s basketball program in the future,” said Dempsey.

deMarigny will also join the JPII Math Department, where she has experience teaching a variety of disciplines. She is married to Robbie; they have two adult children and will be moving to Middle Tennessee this summer.
