HENDERSONVILLE – With a birth in the District 10-AAA tournament championship on the line, the Station Camp Bison soccer team held McGavock in check with a 3-0 shutout win on Tuesday night in the tournament semifinals.

The game was scoreless for much of the first half until five minutes remaining, when Ben Shingleton scored a goal to give the Bison a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Thanks to Station Camp’s stifling defense, a goal from Riley Indermuehle midway through the second half, all but sealed the game, giving the Bison a commanding 2-0 lead.

“Defensively, we played really well tonight,” Station Camp coach Jeremy Cooke said. “They played good defensively too, but we just had to be patient with our attack. Their keeper is amazing. He kept them in the game, but we managed to get goals when we needed them.”

Station Camp was also awarded a third goal with less than a minute remaining in the game, after an errant kick from a McGavock player ended up in their own goal.

“Our defense has been unbelievable,” McGavock coach Harmon Hodge said. “Our keeper (Adan Gonzalez), until tonight, had given up only six goals all season long, and three of those were on PKs. I truly believe I have one of the best keepers in the state. The last time we played them, we only gave up three shots on goal, so they played exceptionally well tonight.”

The Bison will now move on to the district championship Thursday to face Hendersonville, which won its semifinal game over Hunters Lane. Station Camp beat Hendersonville in their regular season matchup 2-1.

“This was our first goal all season long,” Cooke said. “You’ve got to win district, and then you move on from there, to region, sectionals, and hopefully to state.”
