HENDERSONVILLE - The Merrol Hyde Lady Hawks saw their win streak improve to five games in-a-row Friday night disposing of district foe STEM Prep High School, 66-38.
Macy Thomas paced the Lady Hawks with 19 points, and four other players saw double figures as the Hawks improved to 6-0 in league games.
A back-and-forth start to the contest eventually saw Merrol Hyde take their first lead following a timeout at the 2:51 mark of the first quarter.
Tied at six, Merrol Hyde closed out the next two plus minutes on a 7-1 run for the 13-7 lead after eight minutes.
Points in the paint during the second quarter, which were heavily favored by offensive rebounds, favored the Lady Hawks as they ran off another 8-0 run before the Lady Chargers found the bottom of the basket.
Leading 28-13 to start the third quarter, Merrol Hyde tallied another 11-2 run, their second of the game, extending their lead to 39-15 with just over five minutes left in the third frame.
A 13-2 run of their own, STEM cut the Lady Hawk lead to 41-28, but a 22-10 advantage in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for Merrol Hyde.
Audranique Voorhies led the Lady Chargers with 15 points while sister Andrian Voorhies chipped in 13 points.
Merrol Hyde is back in action Tuesday night at home against district rival KIPP Academy. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
