GALLATIN – In Johnson City, Texas the Martin brothers are known for building some of the best custom cars in America. In Gallatin, TN the Martin brothers are known for their baseball prowess. But tonight, Ty and Cade Martin scored 43 of the Wave’s 59 points and led the basketball team to a big 59-45 win over Mount Juliet.
Ty Martin finished 8-11 from behind the arc and scored 26 points for the Wave while brother Cade was on the floor scoring inside and out, grabbing rebounds and creating shots for his brother. But, that just tells half the story.
“Our effort was really good defensively in the first half, we battled. We let them back in it a time or two, but we battled for everything all night,” Gallatin head coach Bobby Luna said.
Gallatin led 34-19 at the half.
The Wave stayed on pace and held a 47-32 advantage at the end of three quarters. Mt. Juliet cut the lead to 10, 42-32, but Ty Martin hit a three and Isaiah Ellis scored at the buzzer to extend their lead back to 15.
The Bears got no closer than 12 the rest of the night and Gallatin improved to 3-3 in 9-AAA while Mount Juliet dropped to 2-6 in league play.
“We had some learning experiences in the game, but I thought everybody played really well. We moved the ball around and created some open looks for Ty and he knocked them down all night. That’s a credit to everybody out there playing good offensive basketball,” said Luna.
Mount Juliet sophomore Osize Daniyan scored 19 points and will be a player to watch in 9-AAA for the next two years. Gallatin hosts Lebanon Friday while Mount Juliet will travel to Wilson Central in 9-AAA action.
